I stripped out the crappy TV sound, and put the actual master recording in - not from a microphone pointed at an old record player. Along with Carl on lead guitar, there's Jay Perkins (rhythm guitar) ; Clayton Perkins (bass); Jerry Lee Lewis (piano) ; W.S. Holland (drums). http://www.ModCollectibles.com

  • The TV sound may be "crappy," but it's real, and it's live.

  • @13loomisst - and, available for your listening pleasure by others on youtube. An actual high quality recording was needed on youtube.

  • @mutleybird Yes, I have enjoyed it live on Ytube before, and I'm glad that you put it here with HQ. I've known the record for a long time, and also enjoyed the alternate version the Bear Family provided. I guess my problem is that the live version -- a real treasure -- was dismissed as "crappy." But I guess that's what makes horse races.

  • @13loomisst - I, of course, was talking about the sound quality/fidelity being crappy. Not the performance.

  • Carls voice seems high pitched - sure this is the right speed?

  • @subg88 - Absolutely matched to the speed of the original video. But, good catch on the speed , since supposedly Sam Philips (I believe) decided to put this out at a slightly increased speed.

  • @michaelzstuff - Absolutely, I've never even heard it before. Always can use more tunes by you and/or Rene Hall on youtube!

  • @mutleybird Sure, I have a 45 of that song. Would you like me to post it?

  • You're right!! I thought Matchbox was my favorite song of all the records that he did but I never even played the B side. Thanks for the info.

  • @michaelzstuff - Speaking of "B" sides, I was wondering if you had the "B" side of your post of Rene Hall's "Night Fright". I think it was called "Turf"..
