@BrianDWalker3445 Um, no. Obviously the forearms would be working (just as they work in any curl) but the biceps are definitely contracting.
Due to the shoulder extension, they will probably not shorten as rapidly, and there might be greater involvement of the brachialis/brachioradialis which don't change length since shoulder angle doesn't change them, but the biceps will still be shortening and moving the weight.
I don't see how you think the anterior deltoid is working in this. The REAR.

Animation's showing the best part. Even if Vince says to go to clavicle/neck, what's the point of that? That just turns it into the top of a standard barbell curl, I don't see the point.
-
animation is completely wrong. From a logical and concept of physics the bicep isn't even contracting like this. The muscles being worked is the front delts and forearms in this vid
-
@remz92 The elbow hyper extension not only gets some nice posterior deltoid work, but it allows you to keep a horizantal forearm at the peak contraction for extra difficulty.
-
@utterlyblasphemous That may not be possible for people with large biceps that inhibit maximal elbow flexion due to their tension.

Your supposed to Be slightly leaning forwards, Elbows back, and to run the bar alond your abdomin to the highest point of your chest (most ppl it would be to inline with your nipples or just below). At your high point you squeeze for 2-3 as seconds hard as you can. Then decend 3x slower than your rise. So like 3:0:1.
This is for people who know what it takes to build muscle. This isn't a show off exercise. If you wanna look good in front of your friends then go do some barbell curls.

what is the point of doing a drag curl rather than a regular one?
-
me too, but there`s no chance I could eat 36 raw eggs and 2 pounds of meat every day.
-
You are correct, Vince always had me pull it into my neck and squeeze for 2 seconds before draging the bar downward.
Also he would have you keep your upper back against a pole or wall to keep you at about 45 degrees.

I love Gironda,always have.
This is one exercise i don't do though,i never liked it.
there is a vid of vince instructing a girl and he states, bring it up to your neck, gijoe44 is correct

Animation is wrong. It's supposed to go up to the clavicles.
