TAYLOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - Nikki Ellenbrook screamed for her boyfriend when she saw the mobile home next to her burst into flames. "I saw orange light coming through the window and it was just flames coming out the door."
The fire happened shortly before 8:00 pm Saturday at the Robbinwood Homes in Taylor. People living several streets away could feel the blast.
Neighbors were amazed everyone got out alive, including 85-year-old Marjie Hayes who recently broke her hips and has arthritis.
She and her 45-year-old nephew ran out of the house.
Marjie was taken to the hospital with first-degree burns to her face and some singed hair.
A neighbor tried to save the Hayes' pit bull Jasmine but wasn't able to get her out of the mobile home.
The Taylor Fire Marshall says the fire started because an oxygen tank exploded. The nephew who is on oxygen for Crohn's disease was smoking when the ashes of the cigarette fell on the tank's hose.
