  • "Then again, most fanboys just need something to worship. I'm surprised if half of the people preaching RED actually comes up with the $4000 the fixed lens Scarlet costs."

Im sorry, does that mean in order for someone to have an opinion they have to actually OWN the camera in question? Ive been shooting RED for almost 2 years now and have never owned my own system. I would personally rather rent a superior camera, than buying an inferior one just because it is more access....sorry, ...cheaper.

  • @geertzand

No, it's German. Arriflex name is from the founders whose last names were Arnold/Richter (combine the AR from Arnold and the RI from Richter).

  • Congrats!.

  • is ARRI dutch?

  • actually the film will not desapeare.

one frame of a film have more information and quality tham a frame of digital camera, the only advantage of digital produccion is the cheapness

  • Read my post again "It's alright as a interim cam" I said. For now, the canons are alright (as long as you're gentle on the tripod), as are other cameras (I'm shooting EX3 at the moment) but anyone saying that they can compete with Scarlet when its released is just delusional... As for the money - we've budgeted to buy two of them as soon as they're released (and the cash is waiting in a high interest account, so they can take a little time to get it right)...

  • Anyone who's been struggling with DOF adapters (before they were even commercially available), can't just stand on the side while some still cam manufacturer rolls out a frikkin FF35 videocam for peanuts. And I agree, 24/25p (PAL here) would be nice, but frame rate is just one aspect of film making. Who knows, it might just come. Canon did change their mind about manual controls.

  • you`re also right.

i`m certainly not going to rent a 2/3" camera, regardless of the brand, and.... i love my 5d mkII :-)

i was more referring to the 20k$+ cameras, of course

  • You're going to rent the 2/3" fixed lens Scarlet? Why? Your ass backwards arguments are retarded. You talk about rentals as if the Red One is in the same price range as the entry level Scarlet or Canons. You are quoting me talking about the Scarlet.

  • you`re right.

buying a camera only suits certain business models, on 500+ projects i never felt the urge to own a camera, first of all because i don`t want to get "stuck" to my own equipment when there is new and better toys around, just because my own stuff has`nt payed off yet...

that`s why there are rental houses..

just look at all the weirdos on the red forum having to write the most idiotic shit everyday just to justify that they bought their own camera.. and are now 150$ short on lensmoney
