@umbilicaltapeworm Yeah, I've known about Tosin for some time now, he's sick and probably one of the most technical guitarists out there, way more technical than Buckethead.

well there are a couple exceptions. buckethead is a shredder that goes way outside of just shredding, i think his electric tears, shadows between the sky, and colma albums are enough proof of that. he plays lots of chords too. plus a lot of the shredders today play over rythm guitars and they usually make the rythm parts. jeff loomis also plays quite a bit of chords.
The shredders today are great, but the first shredders were the jazz fusion pioneers. Mclaughlin and Al di Meola are great too. They shred but they actually played great rythm guitar too. That's the difference. Shredders today hardly play chords.

yeah!! frank gambale!! crazy arpeggios and jazz fusion!! rusty is such a great teacher and his knowledge of this incredible instrument is phenominal!! sheer genius!-jonny
