From "A NATION`S BROKEN SOUL (1994 CD) : DAVE MATHEWS vocals & narrative / Guest Vocal: SUSAN JACOBSON / Percussion: JAN KURTIS / Arranged by: MIKE LYNCH & JAN KURTIS / Music Orchestrated & Perfomed by MIKE LYNCH / Produced by JAN KURTIS
I have loved this song since childhood. This is a beautiful musical rendition, great voice, but terrible mistake in the lyrics, especially for the person hearing the song for the first time. It is difficult to believe that the mistake was not caught before a CD was made, and released presumably for sale. Mr. Matthews sings; "Farewell mother, may you never, press me to your heart again." In actuality, the phrase is; "Farewell mother, you may never, press me to your heart again.
