Just goes to show you can't judge a tsunami just by how it behaves in one place. Oahu had nothing like this, but of course that didn't mean it was a false alarm...as we can see here.
alohachristian (ironic name) you mean SPELLED pier. Restaurant spelled wrong too. But no biggy, right? I'm glad all are okay, although muddy.
A positive thought: This would be the time to let the pier belong to the people again, let it be a place where people can visit and fish (remember the old days?) And turn Alii drive into a brick paved walkway, no cars. Let rich old Uncle Billy or his family put up a two story parking garage on their lot to take care of the overflow.
Aloha - thank you for this. So hard to get news of Kailua here on the mainland. Can't believe water got so high as to get into the hotel. Looks like the Heiau is still standing. Anyone know how bad is damage at Pu'uhonoa O Honaunau?
heyy, my names matt and i live in Georgia. i have some friends that live in Kailua Kona Hawaii and when i heard that a tsunami was coming their way, i started flipping out (my mind went back to the Indonesian tsunami back in 2004.) I'm glad this one didn't really cause in MAJOR damage and i'm glad no lives were taken!
@alohachristianGo back to school: It's SPELLED .....
