TUTORIAL LINKS BELOW IN VIDEO NOTES!

Don't feel bad if you've been making this common error. However, now that you know about it, please consider avoiding it in the future. To keep on distorting your video anyway makes you look like you don't care about quality.

TUTORIALS: http://www.elvirasweeney.com/iweb/ElviraSweeney/A_word_about_._._._aspect_rat... (This one gives a good intro to aspect ratio, but CHECK THE LINKS AT THE BOTTOM because they get into the actual technical info you'll need.)

http://www.graphpaper.com/2007/03-19_are-some-people-just-visually-dull If you think I'm being too picky or am in a minority, please read this. NO, it's not a matter of opinion. YES, if you keep distorting your video anyway, even after you KNOW that it isn't supposed to be that way, some people are going to think that you are a bit dim. (I am sorry to be blunt, but honestly, there is no reason to keep distorting your video when it's not that difficult to fix it.)

http://blaggleblog.com/?p=1749 - I shamelessly stole this video's title from this blog entry, which also discusses the problem with ASPECT RATIO FAIL! lol

Clips from "Spooks" (Rupert Penry-Jones and Miranda Raison), "The Ugly Truth" (Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl) and "Robin Hood" (Richard Armitage).

  • You crack me up. You really do.

  • @immadeofatoms Hey, there are so many people who will steadfastly claim that it's all a matter of opinion and that I'm making this who aspect ratio thing up! They will refuse to watch a longer more educational video, so I made one that was quick and to the point! LOL

  • /watch?v=CHn7w3o22PA what aspect ratio is this?

  • How did yu get the widescreen shot with the ratio of 2.35:1 (super widescreen). Normally youtube takes away the black letter boxes from the top and bottom so how did yu have it to where the black is still showing at the top and bottom without sretching of shrinking the image?

  • Ahh... the sweet sound of truth. Thank you for this wonderful lesson.
