Chicago Stadium Brawl in Stands 1982
vs. Minnesota North Stars. This game had the largest crowd ever at Chicago Stadium, over 21,000 jammed in the barn. About :30 seconds
into this clip you hear a big "roar" from the crowd
players all stop and look up to see a big fight in the
stands. Classic Chicago stadium footage including fully dressed
Andy Frain men, and Orange Jacketed off duty Chicago
Cops simply adding to the chaos, it truly was the "Madhouse" on Madison.

  • I was too young to remember this but why in the world did they let 21,000 in here when the place had a capacity of 16,666??

  • The stadium fire capacity was a mythical 16,667 they regularly announced bigger crowds. The variable was standing room. The other crowd over 20K was 1971 Game 7 final against Montreal.....

This game was Game 3 of Playoffs vs the North Stars who were elite then. Hawks won first 2 games in Minnesota, Hawks had chance to sweep best team in the Campbell conference

  • @TBirdSCIL

The men in uniform are not Chicago Police Department officers, but ushers from Andy Frain Services, which has been around since the mid-1920's and provides ushers, security, ticket takers, and other game day services at just about every Chicago-area sporting event.

Even back then, Chicago cops would have been wearing checkerboard-banded hats and light blue shirts.

  • @mksaelens You are correct, BUT incorrect at the same time. The guys in the Admiral Dewey Suits are Andy Frain Ushers. HOWEVER...in the 80's at Chicago Stadium, the "ORANGE COATS" were OFF DUTY COPS, and it was always announced as such during the games. If you watch closely...when the 2nd round starts and camera pans upward....the ON DUTY COPS in Leathers with checkered caps....are on the scene fighting too.

  • I was at this game standing in the second balcony with my brother and cousins

  • A role reversal here. The players get to watch the fans fight instead of the fans watching the players fight. There for a minute I thought the guy in the striped shirt was a referee

  • I remember going to see the Flyers play the Hawks @ the Stadium, in 1979 or 1980, and seeing at least 4 fights in the stands, A woman cheering the Fyers get doused with beer, and a fight right in the middle of Madison St.. Good times!

  • To quote the great Frank Mazocco, "And they're on their feet at Chicago Stadium, and that can only mean one thing--there's a fight in the stands!"

  • Drunk idiots...simple as that!

  • Funny who all the players on the ice goes..."Hey, that´s usually us"

  • today they can't show that shit on tv..

  • In a 'supposedly' gun free city, to be packin OC outside Da Belt is a bad idea in crowds. 'Secure and maintain control' of your weapon is the first concern, so it often takes your full undivided attention off the mission, when in close cluster F's like this. Coulda gone seriously bad if the wrong bad guy was within grabbing range.
