12th UMC Church on the cornet of 11th Ave S and 12th street in Birmimgham, Al was bought by the University of Alabama Birmingham under agreement to restore. In 2006 UAB again reaffirmed it's commitment to this historic property stating it would replace to roof. Today August 1, 2009 after years of neglect, UAB is raising the church for parking deck.... This is progress! Those with foresight ought to consider their actions with a lense of hindsight and act a stewards of cultural history.....

  • nobody cares about the church. they let the building deteriorate so that they could tear it down. this was the plan all along. demolition by neglect. it's a well known trick to get rid of buildings that would have been saved otherwise.

  • I agree that it's sad to lose these beautiful historic buildings to parking decks or otherwise ignorance. I am ashamed that even having grown up here, Birmingham has no real sense of history by repeatedly over the years subjected itself to the total destruction of all it's aesthetically and significant sites leaving it with absolutely no reason for anyone to ever bother spending money to visit here. Great planning, guys! Keep up the good work.

  • We have to have that parking deck immediately. Go up there at about 11 on a weekday and tell me otherwise.
