Violin Lesson #14; Detache' Bowing (see description info)

Please note: I say in this video (2x) that the stroke is usually done in the upper half of the STRING, but of course I mean upper half of the BOW. Sorry, I was in a hurry!

@DraqMaster When I took violin (I was allowed to give it up half a century ago), I learned that letting the bow bounce off the strings was SPICCATO, not STACCATO.

@maryam0psy Staccato is denoted by dots above or below the notes, indicated that the notes should not be played legato (smoothly). Detache usually indicates legato.

thank you very much, i study violin for 7 to 8 months, but really started some 3 months ago, on Suzuki Method. Is pretty good what you learn there, and you teach somethings exactly as my teacher! Thanks for these classes and the tricks.

Great video. From what I have learned, detache' means "detached" as in no slurs, but still the same concept you are applying :) Thank you for confirming this bowing for me!

@sulizhen85 No! Staccato is actually letting the bow bounce off the strings in between the notes. Detache is keeping the bow on the strings, like he said no space in between the notes. However, staccato, in a way, has space in between the notes because there is a gap when the bow is lifting off the string.
