Rap is a style of music, Hip Hop is a culture that gave birth to that form. What separates rap from hip-hop music is content. Hip-Hip is a remnant of the black power movement and has to do with reality, overcoming oneself and the situation around you, and embracing the light of knowledge and intellect. All hip hop is rap. What is passed off on the radio is rap without hip-hop, because its goal is to keep you in the darkness of materialism and ignorance (i.e. buy more bling, drugs and hoes).
