On September 23rd 2006, Satvinder Singh, Harvinder Singh and Tajinder Singh from Wolverhampton, UK tragically drowned on an outing in the Lake District. This video was made just weeks before they passed away. They are practicing the Sikh martial art of "Gatka".

None of our gurdwaras teach it.

Gatka is very beautiful because it was a form of self defence our ancestors used which secured our existence today.
But our people should also do military training with guns.

that stick can break your bones and send you into a frenzy of pain. well if your sikh you should be proud because even though we lessened its equipment gatka is still lethal. with or without the past weapons.

real gatka was finished by british coz it was too lethal, morden gatka is useless. hit stick on stick and hit kirpan on shield. and wot all that about the spnining thing and chukin it in air hahaha, wot the hell is dat?

Gatka is a starting point for many youth around the world today, and leads onto pure shaster vidhiyaa and other arts afterwards. A lot of youth nowadays who do learn gatka have very positive jeevan and lead the life of a Gursikh. They have taken amrit, wake up at amrit vela, do nitnem and stay within their rehat. The video of the three singhs which drowned were a fine example of this - this is why sikhs around the world felt hurt when they passed away. One of which were my own cousins.

So maybe gatka isnt the most lethal marshall art there is as you see it, but at least the youth are not wasting their times in other things such as creating youtube channels about themselves and singing ghazals on the vaja through their noses.
