Our intention for this song was that of unrequited love (of course) where a broken hearted soldier goes off to war, hence the heavy drums and dramatic take on this traditional song, Greensleeves. Due to a small budget our actual video cannot capture the sweep of battle and large cast of characters that inspired Johns arrangements, but hopes to still express the life moving and wrenching heart ache that comes from rejection. The following is a quote from our album review by Christine Bode (http://www.myspace.com/scullylovepromo) "John Cornwall bestows composition, guitars and virtual instruments on the recordings of this album Above and Below and Gretchen Cornwall writes the lyrics (on the non-traditional songs), supplies sweet melodies and infuses her gorgeous, ethereal soprano on all the tracks. Their powerfully Celtic fusion creations include romantic renditions of such classic traditional Celtic songs as Greensleeves, She Walks In Beauty and She Moves Through The Fayre. The album opens with the dramatic Overture: Above & Below, immediately reminding me of The Moody Blues. From there it morphs into the medieval ballad Greensleeves . • right im not trying to be mean but greensleeves is about lady green sleeves so it wouldn't really be sung by a woman.

  • @Misscrazyangel1 Not to worry Miss Crazy Angel, there are inumberable female singers who have recorded and performed this song. You'll also find that in the folk world, many women sing songs that were written by men about women. Thank you for posting and also for taking the time to actually comment. I appreciate it. Be well, Gretchen

  • Thank you for your comments - we've tried to put a different interpretation to this traditional song - its a beautiful tune but its also a tale of unrequited love and touch of bitter-sweet ...

  • Very very nice and oh so emotional as well. Well done on a small budget. Thanks for posting!

  • beautifully orchestrated

  • I like this version of the song. It's very calm and serene ... Thank you for sharing this song with us, Mr.& Mrs Cornwall :)

  • As stated, many female singers of some notoriety have covered Greensleeves. It's not at all uncommon in Celtic and English folk music for women to sing songs that would be thought to be for male singers. One of the most common is " Green Grow the Rashes/Rushes ". Very hard to find a good version by a male, but great versions by females are very common.

  • The music at 2:40 reminds me of the theme tune from Sharpe.

    Great vid :D

  • @WorldTreeMusic dont mind. its truly great singing.

  • @AmadCatal1
