@89jdm7m also he targa is less stable and less stiff because if doesn't have as much chassis support without the top

yeh, i looked into it.... the mkiv's don't have a big weight difference... but the mkiii's on the other hand.... that's another story... my 89 targa was a good 3,800 lbs... where my 87 hardtop was about 3,300 lbs

Where are you getting your information from? There is only a 60 lb weight difference between the targa and the hardtop.
