@GirBFF123 In the book, you can kinda see Coraline's thoughts, so therefore she doesn't really have to say them out loud for the reader to understand, instead, she can just think inside her head. In movies, you usually can't hear peoples' thoughts, therefore, they needed to add Wybie so she could say her thoughts without talking to herself. Wybie wasn't needed in the book because you could see what Coraline was thinking.

@GirBFF123 wybie's last name is mentioned in the book. they say mr. lovat. and that struck me when wybie said his last name for the first time in the movie. look closely at the book his name is there

@waffle668 Half the reason she wanted a better world was because she was lonely in the book. The only reason Wybie was added because in the book we can see the story through Coralines eyes, whereas in the movie we couldn't, so a person she could relate was nessessary.
