"I think the surgery we were doing in the past was more radical and extensive than needed to be done." Doctor Thomas P. Sculco, Surgeon-in-Chief at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, speaks about the advances made in the field of hip replacement but notes that skill and expertise are still as important as ever.
Dr. Sculco, your THP surgeons should train better so that they can perform the Direct Anterior Approach for hip surgery which is less invasive and has a shorter recovery period vs. the procedure all of your doctors at HSS perform. Maybe if you buy the correct equipment and the special table you might be able to really help THR patients. After seeing 3 of your doctors that only offered the old approach, I finally found the right one at NY Hospital for Joint Diseases.
