This little River Otter was found under a tree with no mom in sight near Willitts, California, and arrived at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care in early June. She spent the summer growing up at LTWC, which has the only River Otter rehab cage in the state of California, enjoying catfish nuggets, minnows, crawdads, and even an occasional treat of Rainbow Trout, compliments of Joby Cefalu, Mile High Fishing Charters.

In early October, LTWC volunteers took her to the Truckee River to get a taste of actual running water.

  • tell me where you let that go so I know where not to fish.

  • Thanks for asking, but I'm not positive - but river otters are pretty resourceful, so it's not usually a big deal if humans are fishing in the same areas they feed. If humans are fishing there, it usually means there's plenty of fish to be had by all.

  • How does one get into this sort of thing?

  • do a little research and see if there is a wild life rehab center near you - if there is, I'm sure you can talk to them about volunteering - good luck!

  • Thanks for posting this! I watch a lot of otter videos, and this is the first I've seen in ages that shows an otter frolicking. Wonderful! I hope the rest of this otter's life is as enjoyable as these few moments.

  • So cute!

  • cutey otter :3

  • I moved onto the Truckee five years ago and my first winter I saw 3 wild river otters on the opposite bank. They are amazing animals.

  • Another special video about Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care. DieterWulf, I encourage you to volunteer. There is so much to do, so much to learn. So very rewarding to rescue and rehabilitate wildlife. Five Stars!

  • What a lucky otter and what a great place to learn to fish!

    Good Job!
