  • @boscogump

    Aint that the fucking truth

when people have passion and they turn that passion into art, it doesn't matter the source

  • @AbunaMiguel Sacred Harp is awesome. Go to fasola(dot)org (there's a better explanation there than anything I could write here), then go buy some Sacred Harp songbooks at originalsacredharp(dot)com and start a singing in Mexico! : )

  • Hello I'm an Episcopal priest from Mexico. Would you please send me some info about these wonderful people? What is Sacred Harp?, is it a choir, a religious denomination, or a cultural association?, please tell me... Bless You!

  • How come anyone has disliked this beautiful music. I too am an atheist, but this is as thrilling to me as gospel, and as elemental.

  • The Sacred Harp music sung by "unschooled rural Southerners" was not the earliest music of America (it actually came to the South from New England and there was other earlier music, such as youtube.com/watch?v=1JtD_YpyXYU), nor was it the music of all America, nor all Americans, but it is uplifting and fascinating.

  • @boscogump | i reckon it's the lack of strong grassroots primal culture in churchs that turns a lot of people off to christianity in the first place!!!!!! before pipe organs were in english rural churchs they used to have bands of horns and strings and in some cases DRUMS!!! they put the fucking pipe organs in to take away the strong instrumental culture that it gave to working people, the pipe organs were explicitly about depriving working people of their folk roots and cultural strength!!!!!!
