Eric Harden Tanz-Orch., Refraingesang: John Hendrik - Eine Nacht in Monte Carlo (from "Bomben auf Monte Carlo") (W.R.Heymann/ R.Gilbert), Gloria 1931
-----------------------------------

According to some sources, Eric HARDEN Tanz-Orchester is supposed to be the "Gloria" label name for Otto Dobrindt's band (Orchester Dobbri - very often uploaded in YT). I am not sure if it is right- this delicate, sophisticated tango style of Eric Harden's orchestra does not remind me at all of the crazy-jazzy charleston style Dobrindt's saxophon band of the Roaring Twenties. But - who knows?

John HENDRIK was an fine Jewish-German tenor. The clip from his 1935 movie can be seen in in You Tube: http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=XjgUjGx1Ahw

  • ...This particular track is very likely "Parlophon" recording (original mx. 128137, "Parlophon-Orchester, Gesang: John Hendrik"); perhaps one of the viewers has original record, so he/she could easily compare. "Eric Harden" in this case could indeed be Dobrindt, but I can't claim it at the moment. As soon as I find out, I'll post the update.

    Cheers,

    Ivan (Schellack Collectors' Forum)

  • "Eric Harden" is a made-up name of Lindström's "Gloria" label, used for dance band conductors - sometimes for Dobrindt, sometimes for Fred Bird (F. Lehmann) - and maybe some others. For wind orchestras, "Gloria" used the name "Hermann Turner" (Carl Woitschach, Friedrich Ahlers). Many of recorings published under these names and under new Gloria's "Bi" matrix numbers were originally "Parlophon", or "Beka" recordings...

  • Oh, these posters just ooze of glamor and luxury! With the tango in the background we're transferred to this world for delightful three minutes.

  • I love this melody in all its many versions. Shall we go to "La Plage de Monte Carlo?" I think not, it's too decadent for my taste. Et

    vous?

  • Nicely done! Thank you, 5 stars!

  • Grzegorz, Congratulations! Your 600th presentation is splendid. I love the tango and the superb ultra-sophisticated posters. I love everyone of them, they are absolutely fabulous and they all capture the essence of Monte Carlo. Merci.
