The Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005 ended a 21 year long civil war between the Arab-dominated North and the nilotic people of the Southern Sudan. Since then, inter- and intra-tribal conflicts in the semi-autonomous South Sudan have claimed thousands of lives. Huge amounts of arms still remain with the various groups. Cattle rustling and child abduction are the main reasons behind the conflicts. Recently, some politicians exploit the fightings for their own selfish ends. In the wake of the 2010 elections and the 2011 scheduled referendum for or against full independence of the South, efforts are also made by adversaries of independence to destabilize the South. Huge oil field in the South fuel the conflicts.
