  • A short dissertation of Virgil's playing style:

step one: play a simple-ish beat

step two: suddenly decide that youre bored and choose a new time signature to play in without alerting the rest of the band

step three: magically rejoin the rest of the band perfectly on the down beat as if nothing happened

  • Like my drum teacher told me: "After seeing and hearing Virgil play you are faced with a decision. Either give up drumming all together or dedicate all your motivation and energy to try and obtain a fraction of the skill and musicianship Virgil possesses.".

  • Virgil Donati !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Incredible-fantastic-superlative drummer , one of the best , surely one of the my favourite ( Dave Weckl and Steve Smith , too !!!!!!!!! ) . I ' ve seen Virgil Donati playing in Roma with Billy Sheehan and Tony McAlpine : simply wonderful ! A great musician ! About Dream theater session , i have my personal opinion ( we can discuss , eventually ) : Virgil Donati is too important drummer for Petrucci and Co. , his personality too big and strong for this band

  • @ 6:17 He enters God Mode.

  • @middlenut3

Virgil Donati never stops to motivate and inspire me, I think he is the single-member-absolute-one-of-a-kind stellar class of drummers. Although I am not too much into DT, I think that Mangini is the perfect match for them. After having watched the audtion vid's of Dream Theater I found Virgils takes killer but it appears to me as if he just had fun with the guys, not really looking for a job in a Progrock-Band.

    Great clinic performance, btw.

  • how could dream theater say no to this?????? what the hell is wrong with them????

  • @AtanasovPetar you are so fucking right.

  • @affablegiraffable

    ...try a little harder

  • I never thought much of Donati as an ensemble player.

    Great technician + soloist.

  • @dogb00ts i can die happy now too

  • i listened this melody live about a month ago, i can die happy now

  • Amazing playing!
