  • kick till you get your highest reading

  • go get compression tester. screw it in the spark plaug holder. hold the kill switch on. hold throttle wide open, and kick the engine over untill you get your highest compression reading. ---readings must be between :

    800-1200 kPa (110-180 psi)or better

  • My KX500 is a 1993. And yes I'm going to replace both the bearings and the seals and im putting a full new gasket kit in the motor.

    Hopefully it should work just like new. Im splitting opent he big end tonight and then taking it in to have the con rod pressed out and replaced... Then when I get it back I just have to hone the cylinder and put it all back together. And then this winter I'm thinking of getting another bike and making a supermoto.

  • o sweet man but u may wanan replace the other bearings in it to since yur cracken the motor open.what year kx is it i had an old 84 kx80 just a little bike those lil things got some balls tho im picken up a 1982 yz250 runs great just has a lil low compression im gettin it for about 200 cuz its my budy.also what year kx is yurs

  • Spent this summer doing that to my Kx500.Bought it used and opened it up and thepiston had play and so did the rod. So I'm replacing both and hopefully that will have the bike feeling like new. Take it easy.

  • if the reading gose up each time you kick it, keep kicking it until the reading stays the same max psi, the psi wont keep climbing, when its at its max pressure you take reading.
