  • This is why it is so important for people to have current documentation such as an advanced directive. Most people do not have one. Whether or not you have health care problems this is exactly why it is important to have an advanced directive; to manage your health when you are incapacitated.

  • Interesting questions. I have found in my own nursing practice that there are times when performing procedures on patients who are impaired due to altered mental status and combative because of physiological reasons we must in the healthcare system make those ethical decisions to save a life.
