@Killah184 Indeed. I still believe that "human nature" at its core is instinctively peaceful and compassionate. I see this every day w. everyday people, including those whose "politics" may differ from my own. And yet we still wage wars that most people, especially if they could see the suffering created by it, would prefer we do not. Its not airy-fairy peaceniking..those who believe we need war are the ones with a distorted reality. As long as we can generate compassion I will stay hopeful.

@sass Vietnamese communism wasn't the same thing as Soviet communism. In fact, NV basically called themselves that just so that Russia would give them weapons to fight the French. They came to the Americans first, but we said, "No way, the French are our friends." So they went to Russians instead, because they wanted to beat the French. Not the same kind of communism.

My father serverd in WWII, Koream war amd Vietnam. He was a transport pilot fying solders off to Vietnam and their bodies back home. He couldn't take it and left the Navy.
He told me to never go in to the miliary if war was as much as posibility

My uncle was a door gunner on a Huey. He got three purple hearts, it was a rough job. They were sent off with 500 lbs of ammo each time and were ordered not to bring any back. He expended a lot of ammunition and burnt out many a barrel on his M60 sawing away at the random jungle, sometimes they'd kick the ammo out the side. What a crazy war. The politicians turned it into a pointless war and the poor guys that sacrificed and killed had to pay for it in blood and years later to this day.
my dad was in vietnam in 1967 as a marine
says it was the worst experience of his life
