It's dedicated to me, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am so glad that you enjoy my videos, I think that I should dedicate a video to you, who's your favourite composer? This is a great symphony, I do not know much Sibelius, but I love this!

@DarkRaimundo Is that with Paul Paray conducting, or someone else?
-
Yeah!! DSO!

I always thought his first symphony was informed by outside influences a lot, but this one was the starting point for him defining his style.

@groovehard Many thanks to you - and to emilygclarinet and podiumman2 - for spelling out so well reasons why Sibelius is "so great". I sincerely appreciate it.

@robertrstevens Absolutely Sibelius ranks among the best of composers. His ability to generate musical tension, and resolve those moments in ways which keep the piece moving (through great pacing!) and developing over the course of the symphony is amazing!!!! Plus, the way in which Sibelius wrote was amazing . He would write out each part one at a time (the length of the symphony), as opposed to writing for all instruments one measure at a time. So the entire piece was already in his mind!!

The opening reminds me of Beethoven's 4th piano concerto. Very warm, loving and tender.

@robertrstevens @robertrstevens Oh gee, where do you start to answer a question like that....first of all, the basic material, the melodies are wonderfully tuneful and "catchy" (that term actually comes from the old Italian "Caccia" meaning chase and was a term to describe what we call in English a "round.") Secondly, it's what he does with the tunes, the development, the haunting harmonies, and finally the orchestration. Also, Sibelius uses what's called "modes" and not just Major/Minor keys.

?? you're not very keen on Sibelius' music, yet your avatar is a portrait of Sibelius, your channel wallpaper has a portrait of Sibelius, and you list Sibelius as one of your favourite composers?
are you sure you know the definition of "keen"?
lol

I think I should change my description. I posted this video when I was just getting to know Sibelius' music. Now I consider him as a genius.
