Perfection! What a tragedy that beauty and lyrical sentiment have been expelled from popular music in our time. I feel deprived.

A great old song; a voice sublime.

@iamintheburg sorry i was writing this fast i didnt mean that my great great great great aunt wrote about this song. my actual aunt mentioned that a song was written about a family member of mine(maggie) called when you and i were young maggie. she then gave me her portrait and writing and so i looked up this song :)

@presweet08 At first, I misunderstood your comment. You had an ----- aunt whose name was Maggie. My great-grandma was Maggie, too; and I'm told she'd sing this and the tears ran down her face - I barely remember her, myself. The Maggie for whom the poem was written ( wasn't a song for about 4 years after it was composed ) died very young, from tb.....her husband of 7 months wrote the poem in her memory in 1864.
