Joe Sakic's jersey is retired and hung to the Pepsi Center rafters by the Colorado Avalanche on October 1st, 2009, prior to the Avs 2009-2010 season home opener against the San Jose Sharks.

Joe played for the Swift Current Bronco's for a time, which happens to be the birthplace of my mother and where my grandmother lives.. one time when I was young we were at a restaurant in the city and I was wearing my Avalanche jersey as they were playing that night. A lady across the restaurant signaled me over and asked whom my favorite avs player was, and I said Sakic. Turns out she was closely related to him and told me he plays the game for young fans like myself. Such a class act

Quebecer here. When I was a little kid, I grew up by watching Joe Sakic in the Colisee. On the very first day if the Quebec Nordiques eventually return, we hope to receive Joe Sakic as a guest of honor.
