I'm just glad to know there are other people who know and love this song. Sometimes it seems like no one has ever heard of Rockpile, and if they know the song they know Nick Lowe's slow version (which is good, but this version is. . . great).

The 3 top -Cassettes-CD's that I grew up listening to were-
1- Abbey Road /Beatles
2-Seconds of Pleasure/RockPile
3-Captain Fantastic BDC/Elton John
I'm glad I have them all on CD now- They'll never wear out.
Nick and Dave are OK apart- BUT they were at their very BEST together. Hope all the guys get back in the studio soon. J.J.

the early 60's pre-beatles sound..minus the vee- neck sweaters and the lame arrangements...this kills !!1

Best pop tune of the '80s IMO, Terry Williams' drums are killer. I also liked When Write the Book from same album,
-
Wonderful song! Maybe the best from this album.
But is it not inspired by old Motown?
Saw Dave & Billy some years ago here in Sweden and they were great as always.

Billy Bremner...not Bremmer.

Wish I'd heard this at the time. Sounds like Buddy Holly updated to 1980. Tried to see them at Liverpool University in Feb 1980 but when I got there it was sold out :(

Terry/Brian, funny you just posted this..... The last posting was the last time I listened to Rockpile. Last night I steered my daughter tward them. I really loved the whole s.o.p. Lp. Heart is arguably their best....or....Play That Fast Thing (one more time). I fronted A band called "Breather" at that time. We covered Rockpile's When I write the book. Just like in your band's experience, the crowd always responded even though most had never heard of rockpile.

Proud to say I fronted a Cape May, NJ cover band and we covered THIS tune. Great fun to sing. And crowds always loved it despite NEVER having heard it before. We prided ourselves on playing great, obscure tunes like this and turning them more mainstream.

Fantastic

While Bremmer had a nice voice, and this is my favorite cut on the album...Edmunds had, by FAR the strongest and best voice in the band.

Been looking for this for years! Thanks!
