With so much emphasis these days on "evangelism" (which usually means a method that was adopted less than 200 years ago), it's amazing and freeing for many when they first hear the history of a method that we know today called "decisional regeneration" and it's founding father, Charles Grandison Finney. Maybe even more noteworthy is the fact that Finney, just before he died, renounced the very methods that he once founded and used and which many use today to gather unbelievers together in groups. If this video doesn't convince you of the dangers of decisional regeneration, I'm not sure if you truly do have a heart for the lost (as many of the proponents of this type of "evangelism" often self proclaim).

Here it is, folks. If you're looking for a good, concise way to present what is wrong with the modern approach to evangelism, look no further. With the gracious permission of Mark Kielar who's allowed me to use the videos in any way that will further the Kingdom, I've taken two of the previous clips that I've posted and added more to them from the original episode to give it context.

  • Even if no person were ever saved again, we are still called to preach the true gospel. We do not preach for results. We preach the gospel because it glorifies God.

Thank you Lane for the video

  • While I agree with the statements in this video about the falseness of decisional regeneration, I think they could have done much better by quoting more scripture to support so many of those true declarations. Let God be true, and every man a liar!

  • In the early centuries it was the attack on the deity of Christ. During the Reformation it was the defence of the Gospel. Today the biggest evil facing the world is making a decision to follow Christ. Without the prophets of neo-Calvinism we might have continued in our folly. Decisionism is terrible. Don't decide anything! Don't get baptised or choose a church to got to. That is synergism. Just read heavy books and sit on the fence. The more books the more you'll be like the great LaneCH.

  • @RPenta

teaching authority that goes back to jesus and not mere men huh?

lol yeah cause the catholic church is "infallible" and the pope has never "changed his mind.

oh yeah, theres no purgatory anymore? did you hear john paul say that one? guess one of the popes

    was fallible

  • @RMCDisciple This is Regeneration in action.......

  • Finney taught that salvation was the work of man and that to believe Jesus imputed His righteousness to believers was ridiculous. It was Finney that was ridiculous.

As a Catholic of the Roman variety, I say this: the more I view videos regarding Calvinism, the more grateful I am that I belong to a church with a teaching authority that goes back to Jesus, and not to a mere man--John Calvin and his poisonous, anti-human and elitist doctrines.

Calvinists walk the tightrope by having to proclaim the mercy and goodness of a god who is so sovereign that he concedes most of humankind to the Devil.

  • why is he sitting on a leather sofa outdoors??? are they attempting to be artsy or something? lol

  • I see where you are coming from, but I don't see how you are helping the Church by posting this sort of thing. Obviously the invitation system has been, and is being, abused in certain quarters, but how are you helping? Are you suggesting that there is no answer to the question What must I do to be saved? Are people to go away and fast and pray for several months? Is that what you think the Bible teaches? The modern Reformed approach seems to replace the altar call with a book recommendation.

  • In essense, you are merely complaining that not everyone preaches on the basis of Calvinistic presuppositions. Well, eveyone is not a Calvinist. Perhaps Calvinism is wrong. Perhaps Jesus is constantly pouring out His mercies on all flesh constantly. In that case, we are merely in need of being made aware of the outpouring Christ's grace which continually surrounds us. So, the ultimate source of the conversion is not our decision, but our choosing to cooperate w/ grace.

  • The tragedy of "Decisional Regeneration " is not asking people to make a decision.. The tragedy is preachers taking the place of the Holy Spirit and then telling people you are saved now.. because of some decision

The proof of being born again is you are different now.. SOMETHING has changed and GOD continues the work HE has begun
