I tried and tried to learn to crochet from books- back when the world was flat and only the wealthy own a video player. Finally, I met my grandmother. She taught me the granny square. -Fitting name. Anyway, she taught me the basics before she passed, and I taught myself the rest. That is until FDC. What a nightmare! You put what where!? The hook does what!? Thank you for waking me up. Thank you for taking the time to show me (and the world) WHAT NO BOOK CAN. Thank you.

This is all clear, but i have trouble finding which "two loops on the other side of the foundation stitch" are. There are so many loops.. i really get them confused.

@Marny5580 This is a technique that will replace the foundation chain. If you have a project that starts with a very long chain, use this instead.

I just watched the single and never saw that method before. Now I'm watching this one and wonder how both/either are/is used when making something.
You're a good teacher. Thank you, tjw.

Hey T! What is the purpose of this and the other 2 types? Is it to make the project go by faster?
Aaaaaa!!! How do I turn it then??

@mommy2otto You turn your work and continue with your pattern. If you are working the double crochet, you decide if you want to work with a chain 1 turn working a full stitch in each stitch. OR do you want to work the chain on the edge. It is the same as working in a chain.

Thank you SO much ... it goes to show me once again that age is not a barrier for learning!
I recently learned a new way to cast on for knitting, too.
To you and others like you who share their skills I stand up {Standing Ovation}

I am a beginner but understood your directions perfectly. I really like this "chain-free" alternative...I still find the very long chains difficult to work with, so this is a life-saver...(sanity saver! ha ha)
