North Carolina Outward Bound instructors Wes Gentry (OC1 green race champ) and John Wood run Steels creek in western NC. Lack of water other places and our familiarity with the area inspired us to go ahead with this low water run.
Low water and scary drops made this a canyoneering/ paddling trip, often we had to set fixed lines and grab paddlers before they ran class VI drops. We spent most of our time walking in and portaging giant sieves.
