  • A #10 holds 3 quarts. Walmart sells 3 mason jars for about $2.50 for 3. a tilla food saver jar sealer and good vacuum pump will give a EXTREMELY GOOD VACUUM. and the jars are plenty re-usable and you do not have to open or fill a whole plus you see what you got and the process is easy, simple, & proven..

use your #10 cans for starting fruit trees.Just my advice... no offense meant...

  • @UserAccountDenied Thanks, no offense taken. I have about 3,000 jars, 2 vacuum sealers and all the fancy attachments. I'm worried about the people out there who don't have the means to get those things. Hopefully a hand full of seeds, a few pieces of junk and a few saved jars or cans can be a step towards self reliance. It's probably not the best but it's better than nothing.

  • That's a great idea!! I wonder if you could do the samething in a pressure canner and suck the air out of the vent spout?

  • @Birchbarkjohnny You know what, that's a great idea and I bet that hose would fit the spout.

  • Very well done, I like the way you think great ideas..

  • @rchopp Thanks, it takes a while but I usually get there, lol.

  • @UserAccountDenied getting all the air out is not necessory. For 10cents you can buy an oxygen absorber, drop it in your jar, put on the lid, and it will pull a light vacume by absorbing the oxygen. As oxygen is the only problem you dont need all the air out just the oxygen. Pulling a vacume also removes most of the humidity, which causes spoilage.

  • @UserAccountDenied I don't want to risk my food on glass, it breaks too easy. Its too heavy for my flimsy shelves. I also get most my food in cans, so it would be handy to just reuse cans rather then spend money on jars.

  • that was just dang awesome
