The Mathis Magic was a short series Johnny recorded for the BBC and consisted of concert performances from Johnny's autumn 1981 British tour, studio performances and conversation pieces with Noel Edmonds and was televised in April 1982.
Johnny recalls the number of albums he has released to date and reckons it's about 85 in the 25 years that he's been recording. Granted a measurable proportion of these would be compilations, and I can't personally account for before the 70s, but since I started collecting his albums in the early 70s I recall buying a new studio album every 6 months. A remarkable recording record considering these days even the most successful recording artists in the world only release a new album every 2 - 3 years.
Love this! thank you..Love Johnny Mathis..greatest singer ever! Jane in Ohio

Thank you gerrymoran 1 for this wonderful insight into the real Johnny's lovely nature. I managed to get the vhs video Chances Are, and in it he does a funny joke-song with just the piano accompaniament. It's the first time I got a sense of the down-to-earth person behind the performer. But this series gives so much information on his style and professionalism. It's great!!

I have watched a few of these and the orchestra are too overwhelming, they need to tone it down.

He mentioned religion and I wonder what his denomination is. Anyone know I would love to know. I am so glad he is a believer. Anyone know how he is in person? is he a nice guy or not? We all know he is one of two best singers in the world. I would like to know more about him. Thanks Mike

We all love to know everything abouth you Johnny, because you are who you are.
We all adore you. Begine the beguine makes my feet live their own life under the table. This song I can listen to again and again. He sings it just as good today. I can sense Lena Hornes influence here. (Not her song though)

I just rememebered there is a history behind the dance, the beguine. It is similar to the rumba and is based on a dance of Martinique and St. Lucia. It originated in the French West Indies, the music was written in the bolero rhythm of the ballroom dance. It begins with a slow roll of the hips and was quite popular back when they had the big bands like Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Stan Kenton. This song was featured in the movie "Australia." here is a history behind the beguine.
