Well, i've traveled from Hungary to Slovakia. Crossing the border between those countries also looked like i was dropped 50 years back into time..

But still: Slovakia is steadily growing now that they are member of the EU.

And so is Poland.

It is different thanks to 50 years of soviet occupation, which completely destroyed the economics of eastern Europe.

Don't expect that to change in just a few decades. It will take quite some time to get it all fixed.
