The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, in partnership with Target Stores and in cooperation with affiliate state centers for the book, encourages students in grades 4 through 12 to enter a Letters About Literature national writing contest. Letters are written to favorite authors explaining how the author's work changed the student's way of thinking about the world or themselves. Winners are announced in the spring, and receive cash awards at the national and state levels. National winners also earn literacy grants for their school or community library.
The deadline for the next reader response reflective writing contest is December 10, 2011.
For guidelines and an entry form, visit the Letters About Literature website (http://www.lettersaboutliterature.org/), or call DC Public Library at 202-541-5917.
