hehe no, i'm surely not :p
It is possible, though somewhat difficult indeed.. you could try the same with your palm and a broomstick instead, but beware you don't destroy something with it ;)
-
Eh, that's totally impossible. How do you prevent the pencil from falling off the nail?
Are you some kind of equlibrist? :)
-
I meant to balance a pencil in an upright position on your fingernail, and simply observe the tip of the pencil, as slight movements are near-impossible to avoid, and the longer the pencil is the greater the movement at the tip will be, just as with dowsing rods :)
If you have trouble seeing any movement trying this, i'd encourage you to study for being a surgeon, as steady hands is the golden trait in that line of work ;))

Do you mean on the tip of your finger and towards the nail; I did that and it sat steady until I got bored of it :)
-
It's called the Ideomotor effect, and you will experience it with any unbalanced item carried in your hands - its amplified when you move due to the body movements translating through the shoulder and elbow joints to the hands.
Try this as an example : balance a pencil on the tip of a nail on any finger, and watch as even though you try to hold it steady it will move simply from the bloodflow through your veins and residual sensory nervous responses that are constantly interfering.
