  • Robert Strange McNamara 1916-2009 R.I.P.

  • Chomsky - kinda HAS to say that, he's not wrong, but both men - at the end of the day were practically if not intellectually boxed into ideological corners to an extent.

Both are extremely intelligent & insightful on the same matters, but I think Chomsky is not constrained by the practicalities & can - due to his position - be alot more honest & alot less practical in his views, whereas McNamara was actually there DOING it. Rather a little bit like a drama critic vs. the actor in the play.

  • @mcleanartists Chomsky is a socialist libertarian properly speaking. But of course has to be characterized as a communist. I rather don't necessarily agree with all of his conclusions myself, but there are certain inevitabilities that have nothing to do with ideology and everything to do with basic math. i.e.; the unsustainable nature of the vast expenditure of the US on things military.

  • @proadmin1 Chomsky is a communist traitor.

  • War is not for this man. He should have stayed at Ford.

  • Compare this to "Bomber "Harris who said about British bombing of Germany that ( to paraphrase ) "to those that say.... I will just say its never been tried before'

Yet to compare Japan firebombing to Dresden - Dresden was not well exclaimed

Dresden's streets were loaded with fuel trucks for the eastern front in Russia

this is an unexplained cause - wheras in Tokyo it was a direct attempt to create fires for destruction

As for Mr. Chomsky - Chomsky is a self promoting leftist political figure

  • @DougglesMagnificent because i think its contradictory when army leaders kill innocent civilians are not convicted of war crimes but regular citizens get put in jail for murder or other crimes against humanity.

  • @vipjan12 how is it ironic? unfair and unfortunate yes, but ironic how.

  • ironic that ppl in army (or leading the army) are not considered criminals when they do kill innocent civilians....

  • What an honest, forthright personal perspective of history.

McNamara did what he had to do, and he did his best.

    Nothing dishonorable about that.

  • IM canadian...and I think hes one the gutiest leaders of our time.

  • This gentleman comes across as an honest man, seeking to be truthful not only with us but also himself.A most impressive monologue in my opinion.
