  • Vince Guaraldi is my vote for the most overlooked and underrated jazz musician of all time. He was white, stayed around the Bay Area, and didn't shoot smack, so he'll never be seen as one of the greats. The aim of every artist is to capture, literally or abstractly, the essence of a thing. With the Peanuts TV shows, he got those characters down PERFECTLY. Show me anyone who did something similar better than Guaraldi. Need a pick me up? Stay sober and put on a Vince Guaraldi album.

  • This is too good to be true. Guaraldi's on Youtube! Bout time!!!

  • @griotrebel Oscar Peterson, arguably the best Jazz pianist of all-time, didn't shoot any drugs, either. And race? Chick Corea, Marian McPartland, Keith Jarrett, etc aren't exactly no-names....

  • @shorewood6 Bill Evans was white; Dave Brubeck still is - hmmm. Duke Ellington didn't shoot smack; neither did Art Tatum. Could be that this is a geographical bias that keeps the brilliant Mr. Guaraldi's work celebrated less than it should be. Not sure, but to put it on race definitely knocks some amazing legends to elevate this genius. I'm not sure if he'd like that. And, to chalk it up to drug use, suggest that all who are recognized did "smack." I agree, though - overlooked and underrated.

  • shorewood6 nails it like a Vince on a Charliebrown --but that's the thing about Guaraldi --he always nails it, whatever it is, hard to name it but it is real. Every piece he plays, you feel it somewhere, your foot, your samba brain, oftentimes your throat, eyes, tear ducts sometimes, heart and mind always.

  • Sometimes I wonder, what would it had been like, if Ben Webster NEVER left Duke Ellington's band? I mean . . . there would've never been (at least it's a strong possibility) that we would've never known of Paul Gonsalves, but Ben was such a POWERHOUSE! And it is so rare to hear Vince Guaraldi accompanying!! I LIKE IT!!!

  • Ben Webster's version o f Chelsea Bridge is one of my favorites, It's always a plus to see hear Vince Guraldi on piano.

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you--Chelsea Bridge, Vince and Ben--beautiful

  • thank you
