Raja Krishnamoorthi - Democratic candidate for Illinois State Comptroller

Raja (RAH-jah) Krishnamoorthi (krish-nuh-MOOR-thee), candidate for Illinois State Comptroller in the Democratic primary, today became the first Democrat in his race to launch a television advertising campaign that will run statewide through Election Day.

Krishnamoorthi unveiled a 30-second television commercial that provides biographical information and shows voters how he will make Illinois state government more open, transparent and accountable -- policy proposals that led both the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times to endorse Krishnamoorthi, including the Tribune calling him a "game-changer" who is "filled with innovative ideas."

In the television advertisement, Krishnamoorthi states that he will post all state contracts and the budget online to let taxpayers see how their money is being spent.

He also states that he's running for Comptroller to root out waste and fraud so that those savings can be used to lift our schools.

During his campaign for Comptroller, Krishnamoorthi has also pledged to consolidate all contracting opportunities online to increase competition for goods and services while holding down costs for taxpayers.

"As Comptroller, I will protect working families throughout the state, and I look forward to being the financial watchdog for Illinois taxpayers," Krishnamoorthi said.

Krishnamoorthi has also proposed that statewide officeholders and legislators not receive any pay raises or cost-of-living adjustments in years when the state budget is not balanced, and he has pledged personally not to accept any such pay increases during his service as Comptroller.

A lawyer and policy expert who grew up in Peoria, Krishnamoorthi worked on President Barack Obamas successful 2004 campaign for the U.S. Senate, serving first as issues director and then as a senior adviser. Krishnamoorthi also advised Obama during his presidential campaign.

Krishnamoorthi is married to Priya, a doctor, and they have two young sons. The family lives in Hoffman Estates, a suburb of Chicago.
