Automata automaton press-up Anubis mechanical sculpture

Paul Spooner and Matt Smith are two of my favorite automatists in the UK. Their company, Fourteen Ball Toys, has been in business since 1986 and has a full line of automata they designed and made. Their pressup - an Anubis doing push up - is lively and exhibits a life-like action through the use of a relatively simple mechanism - a cam. To add a woodworking dimension to the piece, I used hand-cut dovetail joints for the box. My special thanks to Matt for his advice on the mechanical aspect.
