And we're off with another Asterix game! This is probably one of the best Asterix games there is, certainly a mile ahead of the Megadrive game, several miles, in fact. It even looks better graphically. Plays better, music changes every level...
Then again most games are better than the Megadrive Asterix game. XP
The game revolves around using potions in several puzzling situations, bashing Romans... and platforming. Lots of platforming. Some of it quite difficult.
As with all playthroughs (and because I seem to need to say this on every playthrough, because theres always one person who goes "Lol u suxors"), this is being played by memory, and I haven't played the last couple of levels before. ( This game doesn't offer saves or passwords, so I haven't played it all the way through on the actual console. This is why savestates are handy. There are infinite continues and besides the odd stupid section, I won't be using them in levels. This might lead to a bit of repetition, but it gives you an idea of how hard the game can be. :P )
I am out of practice in the extreme (as shown by me dying on the first level XD), so it might take a couple of stages to get back into the swing of the game. And then lose it when the difficulty gets ramped to 11. I love retro games. :D
I'll be alternating between Asterix and Obelix - and playing each level as both characters. Why? Simple. With a couple of exceptions - each character gets a different set of levels, with changes being made to accommodate either the character's size, speed, and indeed, abilities. Brilliant stuff. Why don't more games do this? Think how much fun Megaman X5 would've been had Zero gotten levels based around his powers and abilities? This is a freaking Master System game and it manages to out trump newer titles in the "My God, There are so many good Ideas" department.
As previously mentioned, this game is also HARD. Some of the levels can also be a bit on the irritating side, but that's older games for you. (Actually, that's gaming period.), but only one level comes close to the stupidity that was the Megadrive Asterix game. There are also a few leaps of logic here and there, but I figured those out back when I originally played the game, so no worries about me forgetting some of the game's weirder puzzles. Most of them anyway.
Enjoy the playthrough! I'll upload varying amounts of videos a day depending on how many I can record.
The music is awesome! I rember everytone tone! Loved this game when I was 6! This is 20 years ago...

Asterix and Land of Illusion are my two favorite platformers for Master System.
@ACESpark: The point of going under ground as Asterix and Obelix in stage one is that there is a secret chamber down there in both for Asterix and for Obelix. The Asterix one is just through the wall on the left where you use the water to eject up again. And the Obelix one is just as you land on the platform that drops down just as you come down, don't jump off, just walk left :)

This is my favourite MS platform game and my second on the entire system (after Phantasy Star) P.S Menhirs can't break rocks, and you suck for dying on the first level :)
