Georgia Power has repeatedly ignored subdivision residents who protest the building of a large electric substation in the middle of their residential neighborhood and only a block from an elementary school. Georgia Power, unlike any other business, can ignore zoning ordinances and build whatever they want wherever they want without regard to its impact on the surrounding neighborhoods. Electric substations have often explodeded as a result of lightening strikes.

  • I suppose the Dunwoody residents just expect the electricity to magically appear at their meters without any infrastructure?!

What they should *really* be bitching about is the local government, which allows all the new development to take place. New development requires more electricity. Duh!

  • They can actually build them in a fake house

  • A carcinogen? since when does static electricity cause cancer? because thats all that comes off of a substation. the most radioactivity that come off one is a control antenna. and it doesn't put out anymore radio waves than a standard cell phone.

  • if anyone doesn't like a substation next to them just call the power company and tell them to cut their power off. The company won't mind if you want to go back in time 125 years. It is necessary to have substations.

  • look i realize they're a necessary evil. ga power is still notorious for putting its infrastructure in the most unfortunate areas - they've done almost nothing about hiding/burying/relocating the high voltage lines running into all three of atlantas business districts, areas that are supposed to be the face of this city. look at 14th st, ivan allen, piedmont rd in buckhead.

ga power is NOT a good corporate citizen.

  • as Americans we should be Glad our Power Stays own....in some Developing countries Blackouts are a Daily occurance...we must build these Things to Keep the Power Flowing smoothly...i admit they could have put the substation a little bit Further away from Houses....as much as i disagree with Large Unsightly Substations and Powerlines running through Residential Neighborhoods...theres nothing i can Really do about it...and yeah the Goverment can be an Ass sometimes.

  • fee pretty sorry for the unlucky ones who just happen to have a substation plopped down right next to their house. talk about destroying property values... who wants to live next to an ugly eyesore and possible carcinogen?

  • often exploded??? Try very fucking rarely and even when they do I haven't ever heard of someone being harmed by one exploding. Last time I heard of someone being harmed by one was a Darwin award winner thinking he had come across an easy source of copper to sell off.

PS Planting trees around it that could interfere with the substation at some point in the future is more likely to make it explode the anything else.

  • Lagrange is a city the rest of Georgia needs to model, they have their own power, utilities, etc.

  • fuck georgia power they think they got everybody by the nuts!
