Iceland - Faroes 1-2. 2009 Friendly. First ever Faroese victory over Iceland

In the nineteenth game between two neighbouring countries in North Atlantic, the Faroes managed to beat Iceland for the very first time. This victory was also Faroese first since 3-2 home triumph against Malta in a friendly in August of 2004.

@MrAndri56 wtf?... desperate arrogance and nothing else. The A team of Iceland won 2-1 both home and away against Faroes in Euro-2004 qualifiers (when Iceland arguably had their best ever team)... A team of Iceland sucks so much these days that they even were seeded in the last post for World Cup-2014 qualifiers, behind Faroes! :-))))))

This was a friendly match in a indoor station, all of the regular icelandic players were missing in the team. Was a game no one cared about,with only 200 people attending the game. So Faroe islands beat icelandic B-Team or C-Team in a friendly match on fake grass in indoor station. Hope you enjoy your victory... anyway love Faroe Islands

@ArcticViking Well, noone on the Faroes really enjoyed that result, because of the facts, mentioned by you - but, you know, nobody did force Iceland to play with B or C team, as it was an A international game. That line up was solely decided by Icelandic FA. But this Faroese victory got significant consequences, as it was count as Faroes got ahead of Iceland in FIFA rankings and will be seeded in 5th group instead of 6th and last, where Iceland is to find. And it is only because of this result!

@Farerets I know the icelandic coach was trying out younger players for this friendly match, I don't understand his reason for this selection of these players. Only 3 players from this match are regular in the A team and only recently been entering the A-team. Friendly matches don't factor much in FIFA ranking, for one simply reason. Iceland has been doing well in friendly matches last two year and been horrible in competitions. You know that FIFA ranking is shit, outdated method to score teams

@ArcticViking The friendies do not count that much indeed - however, you still get or lose some FIFA ranking points, participating in them. The point difference between Faroes and Iceland is so small, that I am sure that this result directly did influence the present ranking situation, putting Faroes slightly ahead of Iceland and in a higher seeding group!

in 2 years iceland will be participating in every national competition in football, look at our U21, we did amazing.
