Gavin Bryars Protests at the Closure of Dartington College

This video was made by the internationally renowned composer Gavin Bryars and sent as a message of support to the Save Dartington College Campaign. It was shown on Save3 Dartington Day on January 28th in the Civic Hall in Totnes.

The Principal of the College, Andrew Brewerton, in what must rank as one of the most disgraceful uses of spin, extracted some of the 'good bits' and put them in the College Prospectus, together with extracts of other letters of support, including that of Peter Brook.

To put the record straight, this video is an unedited version of Gavin Bryar's comments.

bidder88: why such a negative response from you? I teach in the Music Departments at two leading UK universities and I've known about the value of Dartington College for years. As a professional solo pianist I've only ever played at Dartington once, but during my visit I was able to meet some of the students and even on the basis of those short impressions I immediately became aware of the College's healthy educational environment.

I went to Dartington College and its an absolute travisty, the college is unique and simpy beautyful and needs to stay for future generations of artists. You can't move the college, if it moves it is no longer Dartington.
