BBC "Ricky Gervais Eastenders Sketch" plus "Dot the DJ"

Vintage comedy sketch starring Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant as "Frank and Pat Butcher", and Dot as Superstar DJ.

Shot in 1999 prior to the success of "The Office", when Stephen was working with me as a BBC Production Trainee on "Eastenders Revealed".

He had the inspired idea of adding a bit of comedy to one of my shows, but the execs in their "wisdom" vetoed it, so it was never transmitted. .but here it is now - hope you enjoy!

Dot's DJ gig ( my idea!) was however still a special feature every week thoughout the series.

I really didn't recognize Ricky gervais here with his very defined jaw line and sharp nose. I thought it was someone with really good impersonation of him. Then i regognized stephen merchant
