i'm making this on the original xbox do i still need to scratch the bits

im using an older 360 controller n im wondering if you have stumbled upon any useful sites? b/c im using an older circuit board n most sites are using new modules for examples like yours.

what happens if you scratch off both sides?
hey, not too sure on the wired controllers. um... i guess you could try removing the carbon from both sides and seeing if one end is connected to the negative on the battery terminal. otherwise, just go for gold and solder each one.

DSE, sorry for the dumb question but is there a method to find out what type of pcb you have? So you can tell if you have a common ground. I've looked all over forums, and still haven't found any conclusive evidence. Thanks sir.

if you go to the first page in the forum link in the description of this video it will show you the way to tell the two controllers apart.

Yeah I read that whole page, guess I should've been more detailed. I have an xbox 360 'wired' controller. The page didn't help much =( I'm hoping the controller is common ground (got it about 2 years ago) but if not I'm fully prepared to do all the ground soders.
