Trivia : Méphistophélès promises to provide Faust with the love of the greatest
and most beautiful women in history.
An orgiastic ballet suggests the revelry that continues throughout the night.
As dawn approaches, Faust sees a vision of Marguerite and
calls for her.
Méphistophélès helps Faust enter the prison where Marguerite is being held for killing her child.
They sing a love duet (Oui, c'est toi que j'aime)....
ファウストはマルグリートを忘れられず、マルグリートの幻影を見る。ファウストがマルグリートのところへ戻ると、マルグリートは子供を殺した罪で牢獄の中にいた。再会した­マルグリートとファウストは喜び、愛の二重唱を歌う。しかし、マルグリートは気が狂っていた。ファウストとメフィストフェレスは牢から逃れさせようするが、マルグリートは­ついていこうとしない。マルグリートが神に祈ると、天使たちの合唱が聞こえ、マルグリートは神の元に救済されていく。
