Start of my chain of movie reviews. I start off with my favorite movie of all times : Roméo et Juliette par Gerard Presgurvic. It's a French musical and if you've never heard of it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0410532/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rom%C3%A9o_et_Juliette,_de_la_Haine_%C3%A0_l%27A....

It dates back to 2001 and it definitely is the best musical I've ever seen. If you have not seen it, get a copy from somewhere and watch it! If you know me, ask to watch it with me. With a bottle of wine naturally..

  • nice review :) I found your vid through my video statistics so I gave it a try :)

Only one objection I have, It is not a movie, it is a stage theatrical play.

I have seen it through video and LOVED all the music even though I don't speak french at all and I do not even like the language! Mr. Gérard Presgurvic created something really beautiful, I loved all the voices except the Priest's one. Needless to say that this production has been covered in many other languages in different countries

  • @ydkmn Yeah, I know it's not a "movie" but it sort of fits the category. I also reviewed Moulin Rouge, and it's not a movie either ;)

Thanks for your comments! I also feel that the voice of the priest was one of my least favorites, but it sort of fit the character. So I was willing to let it pass.

  • @eorain oh okay then ;) the way they have recorded it also leads to think of it as movie (you know with the special effects around death). as for the priest I think that was not their best choice of voice and acting! I watched the Japanese live performance before I watched the French so seeing the priest being played incredible, made my problem with the French one even bigger LOL

I have watched the german version in video, also very good.

The production is splendid. Me prefers the Japanese!

  • I had the luck this year to watch this particular production live in theater from my all time favorite Theatrical troupe in Japan (the Takarazuka Revue). Mr. Gérard Presgurvic visited the troupe and worked with them, there were minor changes on role ranks and such but the plot was the same.

I happened to read the book, It's very accurate, except the death character, and there are more dead characters than just Mercutio, Tybalt, Romeo and Juliette.

    (sorry for commenting twice!)
