In Front of People: LGBTQ Love in Film

Love. Sex. Life. It is so easy for some but made nearly impossible for others.
WHY?

I think it has a lot to do with what other people think about relationships that are actually none of their business. This song is a Finnish pop song about a lesbian couple holding hands in public. It is a big deal for them and they have to deal with harassment for it in the second verse. I want to know why it has to be such a big deal, why a queer couple is so taboo.
Why are queer couples put on display when we convey affection? Worse, why are we persecuted, assaulted, and even murdered when we do?
I don't think any answer will ever justify it. It is simply unacceptable.

If you're straight, imagine if every time you kissed your partner in public, you ran the risk of verbal and physical harassment. Imagine if PDA was not just a part of your relationship but a political statement.
Homophobia is far from over and it needs to stop.

If you are interested in activism for gay rights, my favourite suggestion is to go to change.org and start looking into petitions and signing them! There is still so much fight left to fight.

If you are like me and you're interested in homosexuality in film, do not hesitate to check out a documentary called The Celluloid Closet (it's on youtube!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe3WGtaWA84 ) or the book by the same name. I actually owe a ridiculous amount of thanks to that documentary as a lot of my clips came from it.
